The island of Boracay located in the western Visayas region is one of the Philippines most popular tourist attractions.

Boracay Island is comprised of three barangays (smallest government administrative units), which are part of a municipality called Malay in the Visayas province of Aklan. However, the area is administratively controlled by the Philippine Tourism Authority, with proper coordination and assistance from the Provincial Government.

Boracay was a relatively undiscovered destination for backpackers from all over the world in the 1980s. Before that, the island was considered a very well-guarded secret among a few tourists who wanted to keep Boracay secluded, private and serene. The white sand, clear waters, ideal tropical climate and invigorating breeze from the sea have combined to make a lasting and favorable impression to beach tourists.

Through the years, development has actively changed and transformed the island. From a quiet secret, Boracay was converted into an island voted as having the finest and most pristine beaches on the whole planet.

To date, there are three Boat Stations scattered across different zones of Boracay. Its Cagban jetty port at Cagban Beach, south of the island, has become a truly active and busy entry and exit point, connecting with the province’s Caticlan jetty port, where major docks and an airport is located.

The seven-kilometer, dog-bone shaped island is home to more than 350 accommodations, consisting of beach resorts, hotels, holiday apartments and other types of lodgings especially established for tourists.

Overall, vacationers can take access to about 2,000 tourist rooms ranging from budget to five-star accommodations.

Where there is a constant inflow of domestic and international tourists, there is always a bigger room for different revenue and investment opportunities. That is why Boracay is flooding with numerous restaurants, nightclubs, pubs and bars, all offering vacationers parties and good times all night long daily. The joints further make staying at the island more memorable and lively.

The area’s two major tourism beaches are undoubtedly the busiest and most flocked in the Philippines.

Bulabog Beach and White Beach are situated on opposite sides of the narrow central area. Thus, when seasons change (there are only two major seasons in the Philippines—dry on summer and wet on rainy season), tourists prefer to go to White Beach during summer and Bulabog during rainy months. This way, tourists come in and enjoy what Boracay has to offer all year round.
